This weekend the best father-in-law in the world celebrated his 60th birthday in St. Charles, MO, with about 30 friends and family. Nathan and I drove in from OKC to surprise him, and it was such a special weekend seeing family and friends, and of course, eating Grandma Barb‘s famous homemade white cake and Jamie’s homemade red velvet cake, Nathan’s favorite!
Alissa, Madeline‘s mom and Nathan’s sister, planned the party along with their Aunt Janet’s help. Those two are party planning genius’s and added so many nostalgic details to celebrate Dennis’s life and childhood favorites (like Tinker Toys, PlayDough, marbles, and homemade paper windmills).
Grandma Barb provided Alissa with old photos of Dennis, which Alissa used to begin a scrapbook (pictured below) of his life, and created black and white place mats with others using Photoshop. Guests colored in the place mats with crayons and wrote notes to Dennis. Alissa is planning to add all of those place mats as pages in the scrapbook as a memory of the party! Brilliant! 🙂
We laughed long into the evening, especially during a poetry reading (written especially for the occasion) by Aunt Janet.
Dennis is very loved and respected among all of his friends and family. He provided – and continues to provide – an amazing example to his children, and I couldn’t have been luckier when it came to having him as my father-in-law! I hope this weekend was so special for you, Dennis! xoxo
