June Oklahoma City SMUG: Scott Jarvie on SmugMug Workflow

On June 28, 2011, Scott Jarvie was rolling through OKC on his way home to Provo, Utah, from a month’s worth of weddings on the East Coast. (He has a fun life.) I am glad he squeezed the OKC SMUG into his schedule, because he is awesome! We met at the downtown library, which has a great meeting space and really nice staff. Scott covered his SmugMug workflow in detail, talking with us for over 2.5 hours. Thanks, Scott! Here are just a few of his gems:

  • SEO Improvement:  Google can read your SmugMug gallery descriptions, so make them chock full of key words.
  • Feature Your Best Work:  1) Post your BEST photos from each job first and last in your gallery. People will remember those the most. Don’t just post them chronologically.  2) From the “tools” menu, click “feature” to select the image that will always appear as the gallery thumbnail.
  • Right Click Protection:  If it’s turned off, viewers may download images. And, downloads occur at whatever file size the viewer has selected. So, prevent large or original file size downloads by limiting the largest viewing size (for example, to medium, or whatever you are comfortable with) in your control panel.

Visit Scott’s website for more. Read about previous SMUG’s, and join us this week for a studio portrait demo from the talented Shevaun Williams at her Norman studio!! See you there.

About Mosaic Collective, LLC

I am Holly Baumann Ambuehl, founding member of Mosaic Collective, LLC, which was founded in early 2017 and is based in Central Illinois. I own and operate Mosaic Collective with my partner in business and life, my husband, Nathan. Mosaic Collective, LLC houses our rental property, my consulting contracts (with the nonprofit and public sectors on various work), and also my commercial and portrait photography business, which has been doing business as Holly Baumann Photography since 2008 long before the formation of our LLC. My blog posts feature client work, but I just love to write, so I also write about owning a business, food and drink, travel, and sometimes, my personal life! I am always honored when clients trust me to capture their vision, and equally so when my readers converse with me about what I've photographed or expressed here. I hope we'll have an opportunity to collaborate professionally and/or become friends. I'd love to hear what you think! - Holly
