Three days before my water broke, I had the pleasure of co-hosting a baseball-themed baby shower for my friend Catherine, who is expecting her baby boy any day now!
We displayed framed photos of Cat’s husband Nic playing baseball as a young boy, and had all of the guests sign a baseball for Cat to keep and put in their baby’s room. One of the co-hostesses, Amanda, made a “diaper trike” adorned with Chicago Cubs paraphernalia. A third hostess, Courtney, the owner of Kalicocrafts, designed the party favors, which included a baseball-shaped cakepop in a baseball mitt and handmade keyfabs (see above, lower right).
Cat also received more Cubs baby gear from Courtney as a gift (below left)! For the “game,” Cat practiced her children’s-book-reading-skills for the crowd by reading aloud the famous anthem “Casey at the Bat.”
Every time she said the word “Casey,” guests passed the signed baseball mentioned above to their right. When she finished reading, the person holding the ball got to take home a gift basket of baseball-park-themed goodies, like popcorn, ketchup, nacho cheese, and lemonade (see top photo). The winner was Courtney! Perfect, since she is also a Cubs fan and worked so hard on the shower.
Cat kept one of the gift baskets, too, as well as the book, baseball, framed photos of Nic, and lots of other great goodies for their little guy! Congratulations Cat, and also soon-t0-be Grandma (above right)! Enjoy this exciting time. We can’t wait to meet your little one.
